A Map to Black Studies Collection

Black History, Black Public History, and Historiography

The "Black History, Black Public History, and Historiography" subsection covers the experiences, contributions, and events relating to Black people throughout all of history. This includes public history, the involvement of Black communities in sharing and shaping their own histories. It also includes historiographies, in which we explore how Black history has been shared and interpreted in the past.

Within this subsection, you will find personal accounts, oral histories, and examinations of time periods. Several materials seek to uncover the untold stories within Black history, while others draw on historical perspectives as part of their analyses. The books and materials in this subsection aim to provide a well rounded and extensive history of the individuals and communities that were often neglected in mainstream narratives.
