Resources for Faculty

Find Help On Campus

There are several offices on campus that can help you with research, particularly in grant-seeking and post-award activities. The university provides access to some resources for locating funding and grant writing.

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) helps faculty and facilitates the overall grant process, while balancing the need for institutional and sponsor regulatory compliance. ORSP assists University investigators in identifying funding opportunities, conceptualizing and preparing grant proposals, securing institutional approval for proposals, and submitting proposals for funding. Each ORSP staff member is assigned campus departments and acts as its contact for research questions. Find your department’s ORSP administrator here.

The Office of Sponsored Programs Administration and Compliance (SPFAC) provides post award management and financial oversight while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and adherence to state and university policies for all sponsored activities.

Data Management

Data Management Plan Tool (DMPTool)

What is a data management plan?
A data management plan (DMP) is a formal document that outlines what you will do with your data during and after a research project. These plans are now required by many funding agencies as part of the grant proposal submission process.

What is the DMPTool?
The DMPTool is a free, open-source, online application that helps researchers create data management plans. It provides guidance from specific funders who require DMPs, but the tool can be used by anyone interested in developing generic DMPs to help facilitate their research.

Why use the DMPTool?
The DMPTool provides a click-through wizard for creating a DMP that complies with funder requirements. It also has direct links to funder websites, help text for answering questions, and data management best practices resources. It provides a simple, online space to host your DMP with guidance all along the way. Plus, ULL provides institutional access.
